A downloadable game for Windows

Into the Inferno is a classic-style first-person 3D role-playing game inspired by the Bard's Tale, Might and Magic, and Wizardry games from the 1980s and 1990s.

Children from your town have been kidnapped by demons and taken into a burning mine. Can you rescue them before it's too late?

This game has turn-based combat, magic, monsters, boss fights, quests, and a robust equipment system. You can choose from eight classes and six races to build your ideal party combination. Hint: You'll want at least one character that can heal, and probably more than one.

This demo version includes the town, three wilderness zones, three monster town/village zones, and the first level of the caves/mines. It does not include the other seven levels of mines/dungeons. No features are disabled and nothing has been left out of these zones. This is the first part of the game exactly as it would be played as of the upload date.

Right now the game is playable from start to finish and is in the polishing stage, with music, translations, graphical improvements, and finishing touches being applied.

It's designed to be difficult, like the 1980s and 1990s classics of the genre, but it shouldn't be TOO difficult.

Please give feedback to help us with this polishing -- whether that's reporting technical issues, hangs or gameplay bugs, or just observations of things that would make the game more fun for you.

This was released on Steam in October 2023. You can buy or wishlist it on Steam here, and there is a free demo of the first half of the game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2462840/Into_The_Inferno/

The manual can be downloaded as a separate .pdf, but it's not necessary since it's included in the main game. Don't forget to read it. :)

One thing to note - there's no quit menu. You can hit Alt+F4 to quit the game, but you should note that you should only do that after saving your game at the inn -- there are no autosaves.

No "artificial intelligence" tools were used in the creation of this game.

Known Issues

- Spanish translations are not complete yet, they're only partially implemented.

Bug Reporting

For bug reporting, there is a log file located at
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\LocalLow\Dragon Dropper\Into the Inferno\Player.log

If something goes wrong, looking at that file might show what the problem is, so if you see something wacky, sharing what you see there might help with solving it.

You can also make a backup copy of the "Game.save" file in that folder if you put time into developing your characters, just to be safe. Also note that the first demo build (without "b" at the end") didn't load position correctly when a game is loaded, and you'll need Into The Inferno Demo Build 2023-06-13b or newer to load games properly.

Release State

This game is fully released and live on Steam. A sequel called Crossing The Sands is currently in progress.

There is also a free demo available on Steam, and it is much more advanced than this early version.
