A downloadable game for Windows

Crossing The Sands is a first-person dungeon crawler RPG with turn-based combat and grid-based movement.

Something strange is happening in the desert, and powerful forces are at work. Various rival factions have stopped fighting for control of territory, and banded together to raid ever closer to Human cities. Rumor has it that a powerful leader is behind it all. It's up to you to investigate this threat and stop it before the Humans are driven from the desert.

Assemble a party of adventurers and explore a medieval desert world, fighting monsters in turn-based combat to build the skills and gather the equipment you'll need in order to vanquish the leader of the raiders. Master powerful healing and offensive magic to aid you on your adventures, and delve deep into ancient ruins to find out who's really pulling the strings.

This is a standalone sequel to Into The Inferno. You do not need to have played the first game to fully enjoy this one, but the game mechanics will be similar.

This game is currently available to wishlist on Steam.

New Things Since Into The Inferno

  • The party now has six character slots. You have a lot more options for how you construct your group.
  • The assassin and monk classes have been added. Assassins get powerful critical hits that become more common with levels. Monks get a barehanded damage bonus and natural armor class bonus that scales up with levels.
  • A chest system – Some battles, particularly with tougher, richer, or boss-type monsters, will have a chance of dropping chests, and you’ll need to use your rogue skills to disarm their traps. An encounter that drops a chest will tend to have more and better loot than the same encounter without a chest (more gold and higher chance of finding items).
  • A fullscreen map – You can now type the “O” (for Overview) key to see a larger map of the area your party is in. This is something I wanted to add to Into The Inferno, but I had to rewrite the map system to support two different maps in order to get it working (the minimap being the first map). I’m considering backporting this to Into The Inferno, but it's no small task, and something to think about a bit later on.

Note

This game is currently in early development and is expected to change a lot before the planned release in April, 2024. A lot can happen in six months.

There are only three background music songs right now. There will be a whole lot more before release (I'm planning at least an hour more of music).

Please feel free to offer any feedback or observations on the demo, whether they be observations on balance, UI, UX, aesthetics, or feature requests.

Español es mi segundo idioma, por lo que se agradece cualquier mejora de traducción que pueda ofrecer. This game will also be translated into Portuguese and German, but only about 10% of the work has been done so far, and it's unplayable in those languages.

The downloadable demo allows you to explore the first of five sections of the game, and about a third of the game areas/maps are accessible. The main-line quests have not been written yet, so you can really just explore around, fighting monsters and leveling up your party and improving their equipment. A lot of the areas are still mostly empty of scenery.

I am  running a Kickstarter in order to acquire some of the graphical assets needed to add some visual variety and polish this game for release.

The demo only runs on Windows, but the full game will also be available on Linux. I'm only posting a Windows build here to simplify my build process.

Hopefully this demo shows some of the potential present.
